Dan McNeil is a true pioneer in developing commercial real estate in downtown Cortland, NY. After serving in the US Army under General George S. Patton in World War II, Dan returned home and went to Le Moyne College. Shortly after graduating, Dan and his brother, John, ventured into their first business, McNeil Music. In 1958, Dan and John, two accomplished professional musicians, purchased of their first building on Main Street Cortland. A leap from retail music to commercial real estate - and as Dan notes, his most gutsy business deal to date. Ten years later the McNeil’s purchased their second building on Main Street Cortland.
In 1988, Dan McNeil swiftly approached his son, David, after David graduated from Cornell University, to partner in forming a commercial real estate firm. Dan knew David would be recruited quickly after college and Dan was not going to let the opportunity pass to work with his son. Dan and David formed McNeil Development Company from a solid foundation built by the McNeil’s dating back to 1951.
From 2000, Dan and David strategically built McNeil Development to be one of the most trusted construction and real estate firms in Cortland County.
McNeil Development celebrates over 30 years as a local leader in commercial real estate, specializing in commercial office space.
While Dan laid the foundation for a solid company, Dan recognizes David as being instrumental in the company’s growth – taking McNeil Development to new levels.
